Mighty Earth’s Soy & Cattle Deforestation Monitor is a digital platform designed to track and report deforestation linked to soy and beef production in Brazil. The platform visualizes comprehensive data sourced from the Rapid Response – Monitoring Deforestation in Brazilian Supply Chains program, a collaboration between Mighty Earth, AidEnvironment and Repórter Brasil. By leveraging this program, the Deforestation Monitor aims to ensure a high standard of transparency and accountability in documenting deforestation linked to soy and cattle supply chains.
On quarterly basis, the Rapid Response – Monitoring Deforestation in Brazilian Supply Chains program discloses deforestation reports that are meticulously compiled using the latest high resolution satellite imagery, fire alerts and extensive supply chain and field data to provide real-time insights into land use changes in critical regions such as the Brazilian Amazon and the Cerrado savannah, linked to the supply chain of 10 global meatpackers and soy traders.
By urging companies to rapidly end business with actors contributing to deforestation, Rapid Response is a powerful tool to avoid further environmental destruction and prevent hundreds of hectares of deforestation becoming thousands. The Rapid Response – Monitoring Deforestation in Brazilian Supply Chains program is a critical component of Mighty Earth’s Global Protein Campaign, which aims to address the environmental impacts of meat production, particularly focusing on deforestation caused by soy and cattle farming in South America.
